Village Hall Fund Raising

The New Village Hall Fund Raising Project was launched in the last weekend of January 2009. Lots of hard work, fun, endeavour and new friendships have happened and as illustrated by the bricks at the top the fund now stands in excess of £26,000!   Thank you to those who have already made donations and/or organised and supported activities.

Recent action in the form of the Festival (over £400 to each of the Village Hall Fund and the Church), the Jazz evening (£1800), the Open Garden (£348), the Big Breakfast (£85), and sales of logs (£175) have been very successful – a huge thank you to those who organised, managed, helped and supported.

The Coffee Shop and Car Wash continue to provide a great service, social and meeting point and have raised £5000. The volunteers who take a turn running these are very much appreciated.

Update from the Village Hall Committee

What a great effort is being put in by so many people to raise funds for the new hall.  We have seen wonderful innovations in the Art History and Flower Festival and Jazz Evening showing that all is great in the English village way of life.

The New Hall is intended to be a fitting, attractive focal venue which ensures that village life and community is kept alive for many years into the future.  One of the major outcomes of our fund raising is the huge sense of community that is being experienced by residents of all ages.  The events being held have already laid the foundations for the community of the future with such as the Coffee Shop, Jazz, Flower, Garden and Culinary evenings hopefully becoming annual events.

Interestingly our events have attracted an enthusiastic following of residents from Brailes, Long Compton and Whichford, long may it continue.

Our coffers continue to grow and grants will be applied for to maximise our chances of gaining valuable funds eg later this year the Lottery is releasing funds for a new series of charitable projects.  In addition we continue to have dialogue regarding possible sites, however as is normal in such talks this takes time.

Lastly we ask that everyone gets involved in a large or small way, after all, the Hall is for everyone in all the villages.  Join in the fun and activities and call any member of the Hall Committee.

These included a Talent Show which allowed local residents, young and old, to show of their talents, a Tennis Tournament, which attracted visitors from a number of surrounding villages, a Watercolour Workshop provided by Colin and Jenny, and an ooh la la! French Evening at the Cherington Arms.

Many thanks go out to all who organised, contributed or attended.
